A record of a disparate scene of squat pop-stars, art-school upstarts and committed non-musicians who redefined German music in the first half of the 1980s.

"This beautifully designed Bauhaus inspired album cover belies the 2 x LPs inside, where a complete infusion of influences and musical styles, ranging from UK style "white reggae", to bedroom experimentalism, and Neue Deutsche Welle. They collide head-on, almost in competiton to out-weird each other! There are some well-known acts on this compilation, as well as some German obscurities, with a typical 1980s indiosyncratic approach. This was a time to let artistic endeavour free, and to be totally unconformist. It is ultimately a fantastic journey into a still divided 1980s Germany, when the world was still in the grip of the cold war. Highly recommended!"
